Back to Brisbane, briefly...

Stranded!
We had a week or so planned for packing, organizing and preparing our trip for after Bali – but for the first couple of days we were a mess! The flight back from Bali was awful – boarded at midnight and landed at 8am, even with an afternoon nap we felt rough for three days but we did at least plan our last couple of weeks in Australia.

After a couple of amazing farewell dinners we were feeling well and truly sorry to be leaving Brisbane and shed a bit of a tear as we took off – especially as the route south took us directly over the city!

We’d decided to head down to Melbourne to visit Stu and Naomi who had been up to see us back in August and had promised to show us the town and their new house. We had a mad rush the day we were flying and as usual left everything to the last minute which resulted in us missing our flight! So, 4 hours and $180 more than planned we arrived to a temperature of 6 degrees (it was 25 when we left Brissy) wondering why we hadn’t packed more winter clothes!

Titanic Pub
Cocktails at the Croft
We spent the next day exploring Williamstown (where they live) which was pretty cool down by the waterfront – and even home to a RMS Titanic themed pub (which I am GUTTED was closed during the day!). That night we headed into the city for some drinks at the rather awesome PonyFish Island bar (under a bridge!) and tasty dumplings at a place at the top end of Chinatown. We even managed to squeeze in a final trip to my favourite cocktail bar at the Croft Institute (the geek in me cant get past the science lab theme!) before heading home to catch the AFL finals (when in Rome!).

Windy by the sea!
On the Saturday the kids very kindly hired a car and we drove down to the Mornington Peninsular – much like the English Riviera but with a few less old people! We toured around the beaches although it was pretty cold when the sun went in so we limited ourselves to brief trips! We stopped for lunch at the Portsea Hotel which was well timed as the sun stayed out and it was fantastic for people watching – there was a wedding setting up and the guests arriving were possibly the most ridiculous collection of people we’d seen, I’m pretty sure if anyone had heard our commentary their day would have been ruined…who wears a sky blue suit with white shoes and open neck flared shirt to a wedding these days!?!

With an early flight looming the next day – we opted for a quiet night in, Naomi cooked us up a storm, we had a few drinks and mined them for some Asia travel advice, again watched a bit of AFL before hitting the hay as the flight was at 8am and we didn’t really want a repeat of the last one!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Victoria and it was awesome seeing some sights we’d never been to – plus the chilly weather set us up nicely for what was about to come…
